My first quilt for this challenge was made just like a real quilt. It had batting and binding. The second one-the little rail fence-has batting but no binding. The third one-the 30s one-has neither batting nor binding. Since this challenge was to make 100 mini quilts for Hitty (she is a 6.25" wooden doll) and the quilts are supposed to go on her teeny tiny little beds....drapeability is an issue. Although I love the way quilts turn out ,as well as feel while quilting if they have batting,I think for this project I may be leaving it out. At this size, even the binding causes draping issues.

Hitty is a very lucky doll! She'll never have to use the same quilt twice at the rate you're going!! Is she going to have a Christmas quilt?
Oh very pretty ! What size are the pieces in the rail fence?
If you like the look of the quilting when it has batting you can get that look by using flannel instead of batting and it will drape.
I will try that Holee...several people have said that. I just love the way the batting works though....
How very marvelous Tracy! Looks like they will keep getting better and better. Though I still think my favorite is the four patch - I just love that one!
When I've done minis I bring the back to the front and turn it under so it looks like binding from the front. Looks very nice. I've also used a very lightweight no-scrim 100% cotton batting and split it before using it. That has worked well for me. I've not tried flannel, but I can't imagine I'd like it better than the split batting.
Beauties. Wonder what all the others will look like!
Hello Tracy! I do hope you are snug and warm and stress free on this 24th day of December. Thank you so much for your little visit to my blog today. The quilt wasn't all that hard to make. The most challenging part was drafting the patterns and making them work with fabric. After that it was piecing those curves. That was a real doozey. Once that was done it was all smooth sailing, for the most part! :) Merry Christmas!!
